Li'l Petey, Molly, and Flippy the Fish host an after-school comic club for twenty-one rambunctious, funny, and talented baby frogs. As the students begin exploring how to make their own comics, classroom lessons quickly shift to fun, chaotic mini-comic projects. The narrative unfolds both in the classroom and on paper as the baby frogs experience the natural mistakes, hurdles, and milestones that come with practice, persistence, and learning to collaborate.
As part of the framing structure, the book highlights several "stories-within-the-story" written by the baby frogs themselves, including:
  • "Squid Kid and Katydid"
  • "Baby Frog Squad"
  • "Monster Cheese Sandwich"
  • "Birds Flowers Trees: A Haiku Photo Comic"

✨ Features & Benefits
  • Mixed-Media Art Approach: Rather than conventional comic illustration alone, Dav Pilkey employs a vast, colorful array of visual media to represent the kids' work. This includes acrylics, pastels, colored pencils, felt-tip markers, clay figures, cardboard sculptures, pipe cleaners, construction paper collages, and real photographs.
  • Emotional & Creative Growth: Beyond comedy, the storyline dives deeply into navigating childhood anxiety, creative frustration, learning to accept constructive criticism, and overcoming the fear of failure.
  • Fosters Real-World Creativity: By deliberately showing rough drafts, varied art methods, and silly plot lines from the frog children, the book serves as a highly motivating meta-guide that inspires young readers to pick up a pencil and start making their own stories.
  • Target Audience: Optimally engineered for ages 7 and up (Grades 2 and above).
