A Year’s Articles of Mat Baim
The writer of this book came into the local literary scene late at the age of sixty three. But the roots of is writing capability emerged when he was studying at Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Ipoh, the capital of the State of Perak. Malaysia, for six years from the year 1958. Once, he wrote a poem for the school's periodical. The quality of the poem was such that the editor of the periodical had to get an assurance from him that the poem was his, before it was published. He regretted for not keeping a copy of the poem. The desire to write surfaced during his spell as a Member of the PSC, and he promised to himself to write a book on integrity within the public service. The writing of the book, in Malay, started in October 2009 and was completed in April 2011. He had forwarded a copy of the manuscript of the book to the Language and Literature Bureau for consideration to get it published. In between the times of writing the book, he took the opportunity to write articles, the first of which appeared in the Borneo Bulletin Weekend on with the title "All roads lead to the Ramadhan stalls". That was the first time "Mat Baim", pseudonym, introduced himself to the literary scene in the country. For the period between September 2010 and September 2011, he had written a total of 26 articles all of which are compiled in this book. Each article is proceed by a short introductory noted to allow readers to know something about the article before reading it. Finally, these articles and the accompanying illustrations/drawings/photo are those that appear in the respective Weekends. We are proud to be able to get this book published as a present for the writer's sixty six birthday.
